Ruto: 20% of affordable housing units reserved for KDF, police, NYS officers

Ruto noted that the move is aimed at enhancing dignity, improving welfare, and boosting home ownership among members of Kenya’s disciplined services.
At least 20 per cent of all units under the Affordable Housing Programme will be reserved for the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the National Police Service, the National Youth Service and the Kenya Prisons Service, President William Ruto has announced.
Speaking on Tuesday during the official opening of the Central Bank of Kenya Police Housing Complex in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, Ruto noted that the move is aimed at enhancing dignity, improving welfare, and boosting home ownership among members of Kenya’s disciplined services.

He added that the targeted personnel will also benefit from subsidised financing options to ease the process of home ownership.
“These disciplined officers will benefit from single-digit interest rate credit facilities, as low as three per cent a year, to grow the number of home-owners,” Ruto said.
The President noted that the housing initiative aligns with his government’s broader social agenda to secure the welfare of uniformed officers, particularly those stationed in urban centres with high housing demand.
The newly commissioned housing complex, includes 200 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom fully furnished apartments designated for police officers attached to the Central Bank of Kenya.
According to President Ruto, the project represents more than just the provision of physical housing, it reflects the value placed on the work and sacrifices of Kenya’s security personnel.
“This facility is not just about housing; it’s a statement that our men and women in uniform deserve decent, safe, and dignified living spaces,” he said.
He further pledged that similar housing developments will be rolled out in various parts of the country, with the goal of ensuring more officers benefit under the Affordable Housing Programme.
He reaffirmed that the disciplined forces will remain a priority in the government’s housing strategy, recognising their essential role in safeguarding the nation.
